Vanessa, who began with Paper Source as a holiday associate two seasons ago, has continued to grow with us. Here is her story.
“I joined Paper Source because I had been at home for six months with my new baby and knew I needed to get out and connect with people again. I come from food service/retail management background and I really enjoyed showing people new things and building relationships with customers — and I love crafting! I figured Paper Source would be an awesome place to learn new things and share them with others. Plus, the Store Manager was so welcoming and straight forward during my interview, I knew it would be awesome!
From day one I knew I had found “my people” here at Paper Source. It was so incredibly refreshing to work in an environment where everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. Plus, they are all amazingly crafty and inspiring! It is so fun getting to know our customers and hearing their stories! My husband refers to me as the detective at home! I love to help bring customers’ ideas to their full potential. It is very gratifying!

What inspired me to join this organization seven years ago was the big picture plan to grow a small company. I remember my first day here at Paper Source; at the time, we had 21 stores and eight more were planned to open that year. We had an aggressive expansion plan and we were building our strategy from the ground up. Needless to say, it was a fun few years of getting teams built and functioning collaboratively for success. It was an amazing time of working together, and the success of seeing that first store I helped open is still exciting after all these years.

Customers often ask us what it’s like to work at a place that inspires people to Do Something Creative Every Day. The short answer: inspiring, challenging and rewarding.
As you can imagine, most of us were customers first, just hitting up our favorite store for DIY projects, handmade gifts or the big one – wedding invitations! Few of us gave thought to the possibility of starting a career with our favorite paperie.
Courtney Market started her career at our Evanston store and now manages our Austin store. “I was a customer before I was an employee, and when I saw there was an opportunity to work in such a unique environment I jumped at it,” said Courtney. “It’s great to be part of a family of such creative people—from the buyers, to design team, to the associates in the stores!”
